#65 Pleated Zig Zag Bottle

This tall sculptural piece hides a practical function. It features a small opening and matching lid and can be used as a beautiful bottle. The body is carved with vertical lines that accentuate the zigzag form. The shinogi—a traditional Japanese decorative technique—are carved carefully by hand into the surface of the piece. After bisque firing Akio applies colored slips and then glazes the pieces with translucent matte glaze. Beautiful to see and incredible to hold.
